Canadian National Railway Company, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the rail and related transportation business in North America. It provides transportation for various goods, including petroleum and chemicals, metals and minerals, forest products, construction materials and equipment, coal, grain, fertilizers, and automotive products. As of December 31, 2006, the company operated approximately 20,300 route miles, including 14,000 route miles in 8 Canadian provinces and the Northwest Territories, as well as approximately 6,300 route miles in 16 U.S. states. It serves metropolitan areas in Canada and to the U.S. rail hubs of Buffalo, Detroit, Duluth/Superior, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, St. Louis, Jackson, Memphis, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Mobile, as well as serves five Canadian ports on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and the Great Lakes; and New Orleans on the Gulf of Mexico.
